December featured artist Michael Auger

By Dave
Auger's offbeat artwork is unapologetically bold, colorful, and fun. An assortment of animated animals, crazy characters, mythical monsters, and more — most with wild, swirling eyes — are brought to life. Many of his paintings also react to blacklight! His paintings feature an assortment of characters that seem to have both a slightly off-tilter quality as well as a childlike charm. Auger exhibits and sells his work at various events, galleries, and cafes including Tryst!
About the Artist:
Michael J. Auger (last name pronounced: O-'zhA / rhymes with okay) was born in Maryland in the autumn of 1975. From a very early age he filled his bedroom walls with drawings and created picture books using the back sides of his father's government reports. As a teenager, Auger illustrated and published his first children's book.
Auger attended the Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio on a four-year merit scholarship and graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Afterwards he returned to the Washington D.C. area where he established his freelance graphic design and illustration business: Auger Artwork Studios.
Auger has been employed as an Art Teacher, Graphic Designer, and Art Director in addition to his freelance career, which has steadily grown and today is his full-time profession.
